ALA TechSource, a unit of the American Library Association and publisher two monthly technology-related newsletters had been suffering from low member participation/interest in their website. The site which was old, mostly static and updated only once a month. The plan was to provide members with frequent updates on happenings in the library technology world with the intent of driving site traffic up, generating ad money, and most importantly, getting members excited about the organization.
Solution:
First we recommended moving the site over to
Re:Members. This software package provides Techsource with the tools to effectively communicate with and manage members. A lightweight e-mail blasting tool allows the distribution of frequent e-newsletters to all registered members. The blogging tool allows contributing editors to post blogs anytime they desire. With
RSSsyndication in the blog, as well as the rest of the site, readers always know when information is being posted and updated.
This technology upgrade has done wonders for ALA Techsource's readership. If you look at the graph below, you can see where they were before the September 16th launch. Just two days into November and they already have more visitors than the entire month of August. Currently, they are receiving upward of 23,000 unique visitors a month. That is over 400 unique visitors a day. Congratulations, Techsource!
