Dont ignore. Educate.
Don’t give in to feature demands! says Kathy Sierra. She basically says that you can’t accommodate everyone and should only listen to people with constructive…demands. I don’t know. I didn’t read the whole thing. This one feels like a re-run, doesn’t it?
Anyway, she’s both right and wrong. While I agree that software makers can’t give in to negative and threatening users, isn’t it our job to educate these people? To make them see things our way? We’re the experts, right?
It’s sort of like when I get a request to insert a spinning logo on a page or a add a link that only works when double-clicked. I can laugh and ignore the request, or I can tell the requester why their request is probably not the best idea for their website.
Just a thought.
